Door Supervision – Pre‑Course Documents

Please read this information carefully before attending your Door Supervision training. It explains ID requirements, pre‑reading, assessments, timings, venue details, and our expectations to help you prepare.

Course overview

  • Duration Typically 6 days including First Aid (if required) and licence‑linked units
  • Delivery Classroom‑based with practical sessions and written/multiple‑choice assessments

Identification (ID) requirements

You must bring acceptable identification on Day 1. Without valid ID you may be refused entry.

  • Primary ID (photo): UK or Irish passport, UK photocard driving licence, Biometric Residence Permit, or other government‑issued photo ID.
  • Secondary ID (address): Recent utility bill, bank statement, HMRC/DWP letter, or official document showing your name and address (dated within last 3 months).
  • Name change: If your current name differs from your primary ID, bring evidence (e.g., deed poll, marriage certificate).
If you’re unsure which documents qualify, contact us in advance to avoid delays.

First Aid prerequisite

In line with SIA requirements, learners must hold an approved First Aid qualification (e.g., Emergency First Aid at Work) valid for the duration of the course.

  • Bring your original First Aid certificate/card on Day 1.
  • If you do not have First Aid, we can arrange an EFaW session prior to, or as part of, the course.

Pre‑course reading and preparation

  • Read the learner handbook (roles and responsibilities, conflict management, physical intervention policy).
  • Review venue emergency procedures and dress code (smart casual; suitable footwear for practicals).
  • Ensure you are fit to participate in practical elements. Tell us about any injuries or conditions that might affect participation.

Training standards and content

  • Unit 1: Working in the Private Security Industry
  • Unit 2: Working as a Door Supervisor
  • Unit 3: Conflict Management
  • Unit 4: Physical Intervention Skills (safety‑focused)

Delivery follows awarding body guidance and SIA licence‑linked criteria.

Assessments

  • Multiple‑choice examinations under exam conditions.
  • Practical assessment of physical intervention techniques (safety first).
  • Observation and short‑answer activities where required.
Bring pens, keep phones silent during assessments, and follow invigilator instructions.

Venue, timings and attendance

  • Arrive 15 minutes early on Day 1 for registration and ID checks.
  • Late arrival may result in refusal per awarding body rules; full attendance is required.
  • Breaks and lunch are scheduled each day; on‑site facilities vary by venue.

What to bring

  • Acceptable ID (see above).
  • First Aid certificate (if already held).
  • Notebook, pens, water bottle.
  • Appropriate clothing for practical sessions.

Reasonable adjustments / special arrangements

If you require reasonable adjustments or special arrangements (e.g., accessibility, exam adjustments, extra time, a quiet space), please notify us at least 7 days before the course start so we can approve and arrange them with the awarding body.

  • Tell us about medical, learning, or access needs.
  • Provide supporting evidence where applicable (e.g., medical letter).
  • We will confirm approved adjustments in writing.

Code of conduct

  • Professional behaviour at all times; respect for staff and learners.
  • No alcohol or illegal substances; anyone under the influence will be refused.
  • Follow health and safety instructions; report incidents immediately.

Certification and SIA licence

  • Results are issued by the awarding body once marking is complete.
  • Certificates are provided electronically or in print (depending on policy).
  • You may then apply for your SIA licence via the SIA website.
